The central railway station in Alicante is commonly called RENFE station by the locals.  It accommodates RENFE long-distance and middle-distance trains, and it is the origin of lines C-1 and C-3 of Cercanias Murcia/Alicante (the main suburban trains).  Taking the RENFE can get you from one place to another, and you can reserve a car hire Alicante to be waiting for you at any Alicante train station.

Alicante received its first train on Jan 4, 1858 from Madrid.  It took nearly 10 years to construct a railroad from Madrid to Alicante.  On May 25, 1858, the railroad Madrid-Alicante was officially opened with the arrival and blessing of Queen Isabella II.  It was one of the largest terminals built in Spain in those years.
